Launching a crowdfunding campaign
From the year-end period to year-round: we have launched a crowdfunding campaign to deliver a warm night and one-stop support to people who lose their housing.
The number of people living with unstable housing and precarious work — staying in internet cafés while taking gig shift work — is rising, and remains hard to see. To support them through a single point of contact, we are expanding Sekai Bivouac, our one-stop support network operating 365 days a year. We will also hold additional consultation events over the 2025–2026 year-end period, so that support does not break off. Toimikke has launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund this work.

Tonight, there are people with nowhere to go
From the year-end period to year-round: emergency support without gaps
People moving between internet cafés and cheap lodging. People who lose work and housing at the same time, and cannot find anywhere to sleep tonight.
In Japan, many people face poverty that is hard to see, in the gaps between statistics and systems.
This is not only a year-end problem. It happens quietly, but steadily, throughout the year, within the city.
This project expands an emergency support network operating 365 days a year, delivering support to get through tonight and support that connects to the following day as a single package.
What we have learned from support so far
Soup kitchens and temporary support are provided over the year-end period, but most are time-limited, and it is not unusual for people to have nowhere to go once they end.
We have also seen these realities:
- People run out of strength before they can reach a public system
- Consultations are only available on weekdays during the day, leaving people isolated at night and at weekends
- People end up on the street before they can say “help”
What is needed is support that does not end after one night — and support that can be used immediately, when it is needed.
What this project will do
The Sekai Bivouac 365-day one-stop support network
1. Support packages that can be used immediately in an emergency
Through partner shops and locations scattered across the city, we are building a system where the following can be received on the spot:
- temporary accommodation costs
- meals and emergency food
- transport costs
- support toward re-establishing a minimum standard of living
For the urgent question of “what do I do tonight,” we provide support that can respond immediately.
2. Accompaniment to public and ongoing support from the next day
Support does not end after one night.
We connect the person who received a package to government desks, welfare systems and consultation services, accompanying them as far as the entrance to rebuilding their life.
